Turning his plans into reality, he has built a house that looks, and is, very different. The house is a solar house using the sun for almost all of its power needs. Until recently, with oil and electricity cheap and plentiful, Australians built conventional homes with little thought to the untapped power of the sun. The oil crisis of the seventies changed all that. Michael Bose used the knowledge gained through years of experimentation with solar energy in the construction of his house. Built near Melbourne, the house is more than a home, it is a bricks-and-mortar demonstration that solar power can be a viable alternative. | |
