This 15-minute programme deals with some of the specialised equipment and techniques needed for safe working with 32-P. The particular nature of the hazard and use of persper sheilding is illustrated including free standing screens to protect workers and McGregor blocks to sheild Eppendorf tubes. The principles of safe working with this isotape are demonstrated by an experienced worker carrying out some basic practical procedures, such as., dispensing from the stock via: preparation of hybridization membranes: use of a centrifuge., etc. The disposal of the solid and waste generated by these activities is explained and illustrated, and there is discussion of the best way in which to monitor personnel using 32-P.
