For many centuries, vehicles managed without springs but everyone enjoyed themselves except perhaps the driver. It was the age of elegance that focussed attention on the springs. As speed increased so did the difficulty. Today, we are asking more of vehicle suspension than ever before. At one extreme, 180mph on the road circuit, on the other, 10mph on no road at all.
